Training at home: How to stay fit during the coronavirus pandemic

Gyms are closed, and public sports facilities are no longer allowed to be accessed. If you're worried that your fitness level will plummet and you're feeling overwhelmed without your favorite workouts, then it's time for a new workout routine. Here are the best ways to stay fit even during the coronavirus pandemic.

Idea 1: Build a home gym

Training at home? Of course! No matter your space or budget , you're sure to find a solution. For many bodyweight workouts, all you need is a simple exercise mat , which you can easily order online.

Doorframe pull-up bars are also available at a reasonable price. Do you usually train with weights? How about a barbell, a core bag, or kettlebells for your home? You can build your own indoor gym deluxe with something like an indoor bike, including Peloton classes, or a rowing machine.

Idea 2: Turn your smartphone into a coach

Open the App Store, download, and start training: Now's the perfect time to try out fitness apps like Freeletics, 8fit, or adidas Training , or improve your yoga and mobility skills with something like asana rebel or the SkillYoga app, developed specifically for athletes . From free workouts to personalized training plans, you have the freedom to choose.

Idea 3: Training together despite social distancing

Skype, Zoom, Hangouts—there are numerous ways to connect digitally and train with others at the same time. In addition, numerous gyms, small boutique fitness studios, and yoga studios are currently offering live workouts .

The advantage over video-only workouts: You have a fixed appointment , you might even pay for it (and you're supporting those currently struggling financially due to the coronavirus pandemic). Plus, you'll feel more motivated than if you were all training. Some inspiration:

  • Yoga classes at Yoga at Lobe Block (as drop-in or with Urban Sports Club)

  • Various live fitness courses via My Clubs (free)

  • Live yoga and cardio classes with @emireerose (free)

Idea 4: Train outside

Fresh air is good for you —especially when we're currently spending a lot of time indoors. Put your exercise mat on the balcony or go for a run. This way, you'll get fresh air and vitamin D in addition to an effective workout.

Idea 5: Set a goal

Have you lost motivation because your next sporting event has been canceled? You can't train specifically for your sport at home? Then make the next few weeks your personal challenge !

Have you always wanted to learn how to do pull-ups ? Here you go! Mobility has been neglected in your training plan ? Time for a new routine! Turn the coronavirus crisis into your personal challenge and come back fitter and more toned.
